A spider infestation can be a scary thing for any homeowner. While the vast majority if spiders found around the world are non-poisonous and do not pose a real danger to humans, it is still one of a homeowner's worst nightmares to have spiders invading the house from the clothes drawer to the pantry. Additionally, there are some spiders that are poisonous that can infest a home. The most notorious of these spiders is the Brown Recluse. Brown Recluse's love dry, dark areas which makes many home's attics and basements a great habitat. A bite from a Brown Recluse can have very negative health issues and therefore it's important to exterminate a spider infestation, especially if you are dealing with a poisonous species.
How to Identify a Spider Infestation
1. Depending on the type of spider that is infesting your home your signs may vary. Spiders hunt in three main ways; with a web, ambushing out of a tunnel or keeping on the move and locating pray. The two poisonous spiders you will want to worry about are the Brown Recluse, as mentioned above, and the Black Widow. The Black Widow creates a web on the ground that looks very much like a tunnel. Black Widows do not create the classic type of spider web we imagine that hangs in mid-air. The Brown Recluse a more mobile than a Black Widow which also makes them more dangerous to humans. They love dark places such as clothing drawers or shoes. Many people have been bitten putting on a shoe without knowing a Brown Recluse was hiding. If you see the classic spider web in your house you are probably not dealing with a poisonous spider but of course will want to attempt to exterminate the spider infestation anyway.2. If you see increased spider activity in your house during the Autumn months you may have an infestation. Spiders become very active during the fall looking for a mate. Therefore, if you do have a spider infestation your best chance of catching a glimpse of the spiders is during the fall.
3. Another thing to look out for is spiders trying to enter your house during the Autumn months. Spiders look for warm areas to live during the winter time. Often your house is their preferred habitat. To prevent spiders from entering your house be sure all windows, doors and other entry points are sealed.
4. Spider eggs in the house are another dead giveaway of a spider infestation. Spider eggs generally look like small pebble side brown balls. Each spider egg can hold thousands of spiders. Therefore, it is important to get rid of spider eggs in your house before they hatch, otherwise you may have an even bigger problem. These tiny spiders in your home will grow up quickly and eventually have babies of their own, compounding your spider infestation problem.
5. If you have other insects in your house this can also increase the chances of a spider infestation. Obviously, most spiders prey on insects. Therefore, if your house is full of the spiders prey you can bet that the spiders will attempt to get to their food source and in this case that would be getting into your house.
